Collection (97-055) (ca. 2500 items; dated 1970-1997) contains personal journals (1973-1993); personal and professional correspondence (1970s-1996); handwritten notebooks containing the creative beginnings of his novels and plays; writing drafts (1970s-1997); publicity, reviews, and publications by or about him in periodicals. Topics in his writings include family violence, homosexuality, and the lives of young boys. Addition (03-041) (3150 items, 5 lin. ft.; dated 1977-2002 and n.d.) consists primarily of annotated typescripts, drafts and galleys of Grimsley's latest publications (including novels and plays), and provides an in-depth look at his recent work. Also includes personal correspondence (1982-2001); a journal and appointment books (1977-[1980s]); translations of his novels; and periodicals with his contributions.
